If there’s one place that has truly kept its authenticity and relaxed vibe, it’s Nusa Lembongan. Every time I visit, I find that unique atmosphere again, with idyllic beaches, friendly locals, and a soothing pace of life. For those who also want to explore Nusa Penida, just 15 minutes by boat away, it’s easy to do a day trip before returning to enjoy the calmer, more authentic setting of Lembongan.

How to Get to Nusa Lembongan
To reach Nusa Lembongan, several fast boat companies offer daily crossings from Sanur, a Denpasar neighborhoodabout 30 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The journey usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the chosen company, with arrivals at different points on the island.
Personally, I usually take Rocky Fast Cruise, a reliable option with multiple departures per day. One-way fares range from €10 to €15 per person, depending on the schedule and season.
It’s also possible to reach Nusa Lembongan from Nusa Penida (about 15 minutes by local boat) or even from other nearby islands, like Lombok or the Gili Islands, via private boat services, often with a stopover in Bali. Finally, if you’re already on Nusa Ceningan, you can simply cross the famous yellow bridge, on foot or by scooter, to reach Nusa Lembongan.
How Long to Stay?
If your time is limited, 3 days is enough to explore the main sites of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, enjoy the beaches, and try some activities like diving, snorkeling, or surfing. But if you can stay longer, don’t hesitate! I’ve even spent 10 days there, as the island is perfect for remote work, while soaking in the serenity and natural beauty of the place.

Getting Around Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan is a small, easy-to-navigate island, and scooters are the most convenient option to explore it freely at your own pace. Personally, I usually go through Rocky Fast Cruise to rent a scooter as soon as I get off the boat — expect to pay around 80,000 IDR per day. If needed, you can even contact the rental lady directly via WhatsApp: +62 812 3682 5288. The scooter also allows you to cross the famous yellow bridge to reach Nusa Ceningan, the small neighboring island.
For those who don’t want to drive, there are also local taxis or buggies, which are widely available on the island. And if you’re staying near the beaches or the town center, it’s easy to get around on foot, as the distances are short.
Finally, if you want to continue your itinerary, know that boats regularly depart to Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands, or Lombok.

Things to Do in Nusa Lembongan
Surfing in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan
For surfing enthusiasts, Nusa Lembongan is a true little paradise. The island has several well-known spots: Playgrounds, Lacerations, and Shipwrecks, ideal for experienced surfers. Beginners can also give it a try if the conditions allow, but beware of the reef, which can be tricky under the surface. These spots are accessible by boat for around 100,000 IDR round trip, allowing you to reach the waves directly without having to paddle too far from the beach.
Another popular spot is at the tip of Nusa Ceningan, just across the yellow bridge. Even without a board, it’s worth a visit: settle in at Mahana Point Warung & Bar, perched above the water. The place offers a clear view of the surfersand spectacular sunsets, perfect to enjoy with a fresh juice or a cold Bintang beer. The atmosphere is relaxed and simple, making it a perfect way to end the day.

Diving and Marine Life
If you prefer to explore the underwater world, diving is a must-do activity in Lembongan. Many local dive clubs offer daily trips, but my personal favorite is Sober Diving, a professional, caring, and highly skilled team. The club also has a large pool, perfect for those taking a new certification or wanting a refresh before heading into the sea.
Most dives take place around Nusa Penida or in the Lembongan mangrove, where you can discover stunning underwater landscapes. For a half-day trip with two dives and a meal, expect to pay around €85. A small extra feeapplies for Manta Point, a more distant but very popular site, known for the regular presence of manta rays. The site is impressive, though less rich in corals and fish than other spots.
In contrast, sites located north and west of the island are teeming with life: colorful corals, schools of tropical fish, turtles, and sometimes even rarer surprises.
If you dive between July and October, keep your eyes wide open: it’s mola mola season (or sunfish), a massive creature that swims in the deep waters around Nusa Penida. I haven’t been lucky enough to see one yet, but those who do remember the encounter vividly.

Relaxation and Beaches
But Lembongan is also an island where it’s good to live and unwind. The beautiful beaches, like Dream Beach and Mushroom Bay, are perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. The beach bars offer the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or fresh juice, while watching a stunning sunset with your feet in the sand. The main street is also full of authentic warungs and Western restaurants, offering a great variety to satisfy every craving.
For an extra touch of relaxation, Lembongan offers a wide range of massage salons. Most provide traditional one-hour massages for around 150,000 IDR (about €9), perfect for recharging after a busy day.
Finally, a walk I particularly enjoy leads to Song Lambung Beach. This stroll follows the waterfront and passes by numerous cafés and restaurants with breathtaking views of the ocean and Mount Agung on a clear day. You can also extend the walk by climbing the steps behind the warung at Song Lambung Beach, walking a few minutes through the vegetation before arriving at Tamarind Beach.

Where to Stay in Nusa Lembongan
Both islands offer a wide range of accommodations, from budget-friendly options to more luxurious establishments, depending on your expectations and budget. Lembongan is ideal for its proximity to restaurants, cafés, and activities, offering a livelier atmosphere. Ceningan, on the other hand, is quieter and more secluded, while still being only about ten minutes from Lembongan’s amenities.
Personally, I really enjoyed Bukit Permata, perched on the heights of Nusa Lembongan. This small peaceful retreat, slightly away from the hustle and bustle, offers charming bungalows with unobstructed sea views. The infinity pool provides a perfect setting to relax after a day of exploration. The place is quiet and intimate, and the warm welcome makes the experience even more enjoyable. It’s a great option for those looking to enjoy the tranquility of the island while staying in a well-kept, affordable location.

Our Favorite Spots
In Lembongan:
Dapuk Kecil Lembongan
If you love tasting local cuisine in a simple, authentic atmosphere, don’t miss this small warung on the main road. The concept is simple: choose from a selection of homemade dishes displayed in the window – stir-fried vegetables, crispy tempeh, curry, spicy eggs, grilled fish, etc. You create your plate according to your preferences, and the price is calculated based on what you take. Generally, a complete meal costs between 25,000 and 40,000 IDR (about €1.50–€2.50), making it a very affordable option. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and served with a smile. A real gem for eating local without breaking the bank.
Little Prema Warung
My favorite spot for a delicious seafood barbecue. During the day, there’s a small menu with simple, tasty dishes, but it really comes alive in the evening, with a barbecue set up at the entrance. You choose your fish or seafood directly from the display – tuna, mahi-mahi, shrimp, squid – then they are grilled to order, served with vegetables, rice, and homemade sauces. Expect to pay between 70,000 and 120,000 IDR for a complete meal, depending on your selection. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and local, perfect for a casual dinner with family or friends.
Cookies Coffee Shop & Warung
A great spot for delicious food in a very pleasant setting. The staff are lovely, and the atmosphere is friendly. With Wi-Fi and available power outlets, it’s also an excellent choice for those who want to work while enjoying good food.
TS Spa and Massage
A unique massage salon in a small wooden cabin shaped like a boat. One of the best massages we’ve had, for only 145,000 IDR (about €9). An absolute moment of relaxation in a soothing setting.

In Ceningan:
Sunny Street Café
The perfect spot for a relaxed meal. Not only are the owners lovely, but the quality of the dishes is also excellent. You’ll find a variety of delicious meals at very affordable prices. It’s ideal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, all while enjoying a friendly and calm atmosphere with ocean views.
Mahana Point Warung & Bar
A popular spot to watch surfers in action while enjoying breathtaking ocean views. This warung perched above the water is perfect for sipping a fresh fruit juice or a cold Bintang while admiring the waves. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the setting is ideal for unwinding, with stunning sunsets not to be missed.
Arna Complex
A slightly more upscale experience with glamping-style bungalows, perfect for those looking for unique comfort in a natural setting. Although we didn’t stay overnight, we enjoyed the breathtaking ocean view while sipping a sunset cocktail. The ambiance is chic yet relaxed, with an infinity pool accessible to visitors. This small luxurious retreatoffers a prime setting for a pleasant moment, away from the hustle and bustle. It’s an excellent option for a relaxing getaway without necessarily staying overnight — a perfect little luxury without breaking the budget!

Nusa Lembongan: A Must-Visit in Bali
In short, Nusa Lembongan is a true gem to discover off the coast of Bali, perfect for combining adventure, relaxation, and culinary discoveries. Compared to its neighboring island, Nusa Penida, Lembongan is smaller and can be explored relatively quickly.
